Hand carved wood seated Buddha in 'Padmasana' (lotus) position excercising the 'Bhumisparsa' mudra, (touching the earth to invoke earth as a witness to the truth of his words), with traditional bright polychrome red and yellow (representing saffron) robe painted detail. Portrayed atop a stylized double layered lotus throne with double headed 'Hintha' (or 'Hamsa' a Burmese mythological duck figure) boat symbol (center of bottom row).  From Laos, dating from the late 19th century and measures 25" tall x 8" wide x 8" deep. Laotian Buddhas of this quality, condition and age are quite rare.
