Heavily cast antique bronze-finished brass 'Dong Son', ceremonial rain drum, with three mid section sections featuring swimming fish, turtles and palm tree motifs respectively. A traditional stylized sun burst design on center top and circling carabao ( water buffalo,  local beast of burden) around base. Used since 500BC in  Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand in temples and villages during festivitals, processions and ceremonies to attract attention from the heavens to encourage a good rainy season and to insure healthy crops and prosperity. This a fine custom reproduction made for us in Thailand from an original example in the Shanghai Museum, China, dating back to 500 B.C. 24" diameter x 18" tall
