Dong Son Bronze Bucket, North Vietnam 500BC - 100AD
[vie280104600]
|
This is a beautiful bronze bucket from the Dong Son culture who occupied Northern Vietnam from 800BC until 100AD. Cast in a 2-part mold with textured exterior, separated into horizontal registers, each containing low relief circle or linear decorations. This bucket is outstanding from many others that I have seen in it's decoration. There is a unique depiction in this bucket of a ship on water and fish swimming beneath. Standing on a low ring base with slightly widening body and two bails on the upper body. Excellent blue-green and brown, crusty patina.
9.25" tall and 8" wide
