This piece is called a "Ty Ba" wine pouring vessel but is also known as a Yuhuchun vase. This tall vase is painted with the "hopping bird" with outstretched wing motif. It is one of those visual cues that immediately lets one know this piece is from Vietnam and probably dates to the 16th century, when the Later Le dynasty had perfected the blue and white technique and when this motif was very in vogue. This 12 inch vase is decorated with designs of reeds at below the rim followed by a band of whirling clouds along the neck. The central design is of course the "chich choe" bird "hopping" above a band of lappets. The base is washed in a chocolate colored wash.
