Shiva Lingam, Khmer, Angkor Wat period
Shiva Lingam, Khmer, Angkor Wat period [era1220ss]
Shiva Lingam from the Khmer empire during the period of Angkor Wat. A vast majority of Khmer culture and resources were devoted to Hinduism. This particular piece is the Shiva Lingam, an anthropomorphic form of Shiva.

The Shiva lingam denotes the primeval energy of the Creator. It is believed that at the end of all creation, during the great deluge, all of the different aspects of God find a resting place in the Lingam; Bhrama is absorbed into the right, Vishnu to the left and Gayatri into the heart. The Shiva lingam is also a representation of the infinite Cosmic Column of fire.
